3rd Directors' Fortnight selection for Hamer
by Annika Pham
Norwegian director Bent Hamer is for the third time selected at the Directors Fornight in Cannes, with his new film Factotum based on US writer Charles Bukowski’s eponymous novel. Hamer’s first feature film Eggs had its international premiere at the Directors Fortnight in 1995, and third feature film Kitchen Stories screened at the Cannes sidebar in 2003.
Factotum is a co-production with US producer Jim Stark, starring Matt Dillon, Lily Taylor, Didier Flamand and Marisa Tomei. It is the story of a man living on the edge, of a writer who is willing to risk everything to make sure that his life is his poetry.
Factotum opened the Norwegian Film Festival in Tronheim earlier this month, and the premiere in Norway through SF Norge will be on 29 April. The official screening in Cannes is set for 14 May. Paris-based sales agent Celluloid Dreams is handling international sales on the film already sold to over 20 territories.
