New slate funding for Norwegian producers

by

The Norwegian Film Fund (NFF) has just decided to increase the support to local production companies with the creation of a ‘slate funding’ worth NOK 750,000 for the development of feature films. The package support is for the development of at least five projects that will receive around NOK 150,000 each or a maximum of 50% of their cost.
“This new form of support will give producers more freedom and responsibility during the development process. It is also an extra help for the industry which we hope will create new creative alliances”, said Stein Slyngstad, Head of the NFF.
The NFF already offers various grants to feature film production including a support for the production of feature length films (national and majority-coproductions), a support for the production of minority co-productions, and a support for the production of ‘commercial’ films. A ceiling of NOK 30 million applies for the support of any one, single project. In 2004, the NFF’s budget for feature film support in the form of conditional repayable loans totalled NOK 190 million.
