New team at BFI archives

The British Film Institute (BFI) has announced a raft of key appointments at the BFI National Film & TV archive and the BFI National Library.
Darren Long will join the BFI as Head of Collections from 6 June. His role will be to define and deliver the strategic priorities for the BFI’s library and archive collections in terms of preservation, conservation, collection managements, acquisition and developing public access.
Nigel Algar is since 4 April Senior Curator (Fiction) at the BFI. He is responsible for leading and managing a team of curators to develop, interpret and care for the fiction film collections for the nation.
William Fowler will arrive at the BFI on 27 June to become Artists Moving Image Curator. His role will be to build the BFI’s collections of work by British film and video artists.
Finally Robin Baker will join the BFI Archive curatorial team on 3 May as Collections Curator Mediatheque, and will help them produce content for the BFI’s planned mediatheques.
Commenting on the appointments, BFI director Amanda Nevill said: “these appointments are a vital step in achieving our vision for the British Film Institute and will be instrumental in both interpreting and increasing accessibility to our collections”. The collections held by the BFI started over 60 years ago and comprise over 275,000 features, non-fiction and short films from 1894, and 210,000 TV programmes.
