The ACE come back to Cannes
For the sixth year in a row, the European Film Workshops (ACE in French) take advantage of the Cannes Film Festival to gather the producers who belong to this network and professionals from the international film industry at a series of meetings. Every morning, from the 14th to the 18th of May, business breakfasts will allow the ACE producers to discuss their new projects together and meet potential partners for future collaborations. All this networking will also allow the authors-directors from the Cinéfondation and the participants to the Masterclass to get to know the ACE.
Since the ACE was created in 1993, nearly 160 independent feature producers from 21 European countries became members. Every year, 15 European producers are selected to participate to the ACE programme, that is, attend workshops and seminars and get personal advice on their new projects so as to carry them out successfully by developing the script, learning how to elaborate the budget and find financers, etc. In fact, besides its function as a professional advisor, the ACE has gradually become an important network of European producers, which favours co-productions.
The Management board of the ACE, presided bySimon Perry, has just elected the French Philippe Carcassonne vice-president. Tomas Eskilsson, from Sweden, also joined the committee which already included two Italian members, Roberto Cicutto and Cecilia Valmarana, Bertrand Faivre (France/UK), two Germans, Ulrich Felsberg and Jens Meurer, José Maria Morales (Spain), and a couple of British members, Lynda Myles and Mark Shivas. It is important to mention that amongst the main partners of the ACE, there is the Media Programme, le CNC, the UK Film Council, the Swiss Federal Cultural Office, Rai cinema, the Cinemart in Rotterdam, and the Cannes Film Market.
