Winterbottom comes for the European Day

The british director Michael Winterbottom will be the guest star of the European Day which will take place on the 17th of May in Cannes. The director, who was a member of the jury in 1998, has run three times in competition —in 1997 with Welcome to Sarajevo, in 1999 with Wonderland, and in 2002 with 24 Hour Party People. He also won the 2003 Golden Bear in Berlin for In This World. He is also know for Jude, and, more recently, Code 46 [+see also:

(in competition in Venice 2003) and 9 Song (2004). He is also a producer via his company, Revolution Films.

Michael Winterbottom will join the European Ministers of Culture and the film professionals for a debate on European films and the media society which two other special guests will attend : Viviane Reding (European Commission member in charge of information and medias) and Gilles Jacob, who runs the whole Cannes Film Festival. After a morning spent discussing the above-mentioned topic, Mrs. Reding and the ministers will tell the press about the conclusions drawn during the meeting.
