Viviane Reding greets Cineuropa’s recovery
The European cinema was under the spotlights late yesterday afternoon on the terrace Italia Cannes 2005 of the Noga Hilton during the press conference organized to celebrate the revival and the new projects of Cineuropa. Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner for information society and media seized the opportunity to remind how much the Media Program has been involved since the beginning of the project and underlined the importance of Cineuropa as a Promotion tool to inform professionals and the public at large on the diversity of European creation: « In a world of competition, new technologies are vital so as to give a chance to our European cinema, especially concerning independent productions and art house films».
Among many representatives of Cineuropa’s partners which is now run by Cinergie (CNC, ICAA, Swiss Films, UK Film Council, EuropaNet, European Film Promotion) Fadila Laanan, the Minister for Culture, Medias and Youth of the French Community of Belgium and Alessandro Usai, chairman of Cinecittà Holding insisted on the necessity to strengthen ties at a European level. Indeed, Cineuropa represents a showcase for 29 countries.
Eventually, after the speech of Jérôme Paillard who organizes the Cannes Film Market, Giorgio Gosetti announced that a partnership was born between Cineuropa and the Days of the Authors of which he is responsible and which began last year at the Venice Film Festival. An agreement which was born in Cannes and which will take its first steps on the Venetian Laguna next September.
