Four European countries under the agency ISAN Berne
The ISAN number, which is operational since the beginning of the year, represents a true revolution so as to identify audiovisual works. Eight years of work have been necessary to have, as in music and publishing, this International Standard Audiovisual Number. Since the creation in Geneva of the International AgencyISAN-IA, more than 50.000 works have been registered by the French ISAN Agency and ISAN Berne. The latter, based in the Swiss capital, is extending its activities in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Producers and filmmakers are invited to register their former and new films. With the multiplication of TV broadcasters and new technical developments (numerical projection, film broadcasting via the Internet) the ISAN number became an imperative necessity. It considerably improves the control of works commercialization, making the collection of license fees, Author’s rights and user licences easier. It also represents an effective mean of struggling against pirating.
