New Talent Award to Peter Börjesson
by Annika Pham
The EU Commissioner Viviane Reding awarded today the MEDIA New Talent Award to 29 year-old Swedish scriptwriter Peter Börjesson for his project Symbiosis developed within the SOURCES programme last year. It’s the story of a lonely man who tries to come closer to a little lonely woman who lives next to him in the same building block. Step by step, he begins to share her life and apartment, like an invisible substitute for the one she lost.
The project was produced by Rock’N’Roll Film in Sweden’s Southern region of Skåne. The company was created in 1999 by Erik Magnusson and Martin Larsson with the intention to tell good stories and contribute to the development of the region’s film and audiovisual activities.
The New Talent Award presented for the second time rewards an upcoming scriptwriter who has developed his project within one of the MEDIA Training programmes. The winner is given the opportunity to attend the Cannes Film Festival and to present his project to potential financiers and the production company which has backed the project, a €40,000 grant towards further development of the project.
