«We must overcome European resistance,» says Italy´s culture minister, Urbani

The comments were made at the press conference for the forthcoming European Film Awards scheduled for 6 and 7 December in Rome. «If we managed to introduce the Euro without the unanimous participation of all of Europe, the same can be achieved for our entertainment sector. Scandinavia was totally against fiscal uniformity» despite its being a vitally important instrument for film exhibition and distribution. «I don´t think we would be attacking Europe if we were to promote a common line albeit we might be doing something that is theoretically forbidden by the European treaty.» Urbani indicated the forthcoming Italian semester of presidency of the European Council as a favourable time to implement this reform.
