by João Pedro Rodrigues (special distinction from the research cinema committee), another woman’s name is about to appear on the Portuguese screens.
Adriana, by Margarida Gil (O Anjo da Guarda - 1999) is the director’s sixth feature. It is the story of a young woman, Adriana (Ana Moreira), who has been kidnapped and held captive on an imaginary island located in the Açores archipelago where all sexual intercourse are prohibited, and then sent back on the Continent with the mission to ‘procreate the natural way and build a family’. The script of this urban comedy with coming-of-age touches focuses on the girl’s gradual loss of innocence as she discovers the real world and forgets all about her mission.

Adriana, produced by José Mazeda for Take 2000 and supported by the national TV channel RTP as well as the ICAM, won the Tobis Prize as Best Portuguese Film at the latest IndieLisboa Festival. Atalanta Filmes will release it in Portugal.
