FUNDING Germany

It's P.R.I.M.E time

by

A new Film Development Fund, presented in Cannes by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandebourg, the Austrian Film Institute, and their Swiss partner Focal, will become operational early in 2006.

P.R.I.M.E. (Packaging, Rewriting, International, Market, Exchange), based in Berlin, is designed for writers and producers who have released at least three films in three countries. The idea is to 'fill a gap' - according to Frank Stehling, Project manager - and help films all the way, from creation through to marketing. A team of experts working in three languages (English, French, and German) will help filmmakers develop not only the content of their work but also the business plan by evaluating the project at different stages of its preparation. Eventually, they will suggest a finance plan adapted to the market.

European professionals proved enthusiastic about this new programme. The funding members Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will soon be joined by the Slovenian Film Fund and the Danish Film Institute. Film London has also given positive feedback. The team of experts is very likely to be joined by well-known European film professionals.
