FESTIVALS Italy

What's up, doc?

by

The fourth romadocfest – International Documentary Festival, will take place in Rome —at the Trevi theatre – Cineteca Nazionale, a few steps away from the famous Trevi fountain— from the 6th to the 12th of June. Over 50 documentaries from Italy and many other countries will be screened. The festival falls into five categories: two competitions, 'archives', 'silent films', and 'the History of rock n' roll'. Having had set themes for three years in a row, the competitive sections will this year has alloed the directors carte blanche.

On Saturday the 11th, a meeting entitled 'Documentaries in a state of confusion' will allow the public to discuss with professionals the specific production and distribution difficulties met by documentary films.
One of the films in international competition is particularly worth mentioning: Fuori Fuoco – Cinema, ribelli e rivoluzionari, by Federico Greco and Mazzino Montinari (screening Sat., 9pm) reflects on terrorism in Italy in the 70's and 80's with a portrait of three members of the communist militia and three 'lefty' writers. The actress Maya Sansa (the terrorist who guarded Moro's cell in Marco Bellocchio's Buongiorno, notte) also appears in this movie.
