Annecy, capital of animation

by

Kick-off today for Annecy, the incontrovertible annual rendez-vous for professionals of the Animation Industry. Number One competitive event at international level, Annecy Animated Film Festival offers until Saturday an official selection of 208 films from 32 countries, a programme which includes shorts and features, television series, commissioned or end of study pieces, plus films for the Internet. According to the event’s artistic director Serge Bromberg, European production holds the high ground with many projects either completed or in production, a dynamism related to a rise in pan-European alliances in terms of pre-financing.

b>Feature Films in competition this year include, notably, the Danish film i>Terek I Knibe by Stefan Fjeldmark, Thorbjorn Christoffersen and Kresten Vestberg Andersen, the Swedish box office success Bland Tislar by Uzi Geffenbald and Lotta Geffenbald, the Estonian production Frank End Wendy by Priit Tender, Ulo Pikkov and Kaspar Jancis, the Hungarian feature Nyocker by Aron Gauder. Note, too, the sneak previews of Renart, le Renard by Thierry Schiel (Luxembourg) German-British-Spanish production Back to Gaya by Lenard F. Krawinkel and Holger Tappe, and also L’Etoile de Laura by Thilo Graf Rothkirch (Allemagne).

Elsewhere, Annecy holds a b>Film Market which runs from Wednesday to Friday with over 1000 pre-registered participants, from producers to broadcasters, and of course buyers, sellers, editors and creators, and not forgetting the film schools. Almost 900 European professionals are expected to show up, the majority of them French, but there will also be large delegations from Italy and Spain (62 registered from each country), British participants (35), German (26), Luxembourg (24), Swiss (15), Danish (13), Macedonians (12), Finnish (8), Portuguese (6), Irish (6), Dutch (4), Croat (4), Hungarian (4), Polish (3), Latvia (2) and Swedish (1). These European professionals can also take advantage of daily conferences, featuring news and discussions on the technical, artistic and economic issues in the animation field, such as "The impact of High Definition" (Tuesday 7the June) or "The European 3D Feature" (Friday 10th June).
