39% market share for Danish films

During the first quarter of 2005, Danish films took as much as 39% of the local market share, almost four times more than during the same period last year, according to figures published by Danmark Statisk, the Danish official Statistics Office.

The biggest local hit during the first three months of 2005 was Tomas Villum Jensen’s bitter sweet comedy The Sun King (Solkongen) with almost 340,000 admissions since its February release. The film is produced by Thura Film and distributed by Nordisk Film.
Another Nordisk Film release: Anders Thomas Jensen’s comedy Adam’s Apples (Adams Aebler) produced by M & M Productions, has already sold over 313,000 tickets in less than two months, and will probably soon overtake The Sun King. It is still number three at the local box office after seven weeks, behind US blockbusters Stars Wars, Episode 3 and The Interpreter.

The other most successful Danish films during the first quarter of 2005 include Carsten Myllerup’s children film Oskar & Josefine (252,000 admissions) produced by Cosmo Film, Ole Christian Madsen’s drama Angels In Fast Motion (Nordkraft) (197,541 admissions) produced by Nimbus Film, and Peter Flinth’s family adventure film The Fakir (Fakiren fra Bilbao) (112,776 admissions) produced by M&M Productions.
