FESTIVALS Germany

Shanghai focuses on Germany

by

The 8th Shanghai International Film Festival (11 - 19 June 2005), an event attended by all of the Chinese film industry, is clearly trying to open up to the rest of the world, and European professionals are particularly keen, as evidenced by the European Film Promotion's offer to support the marketing efforts of sales agents attending Shanghai through a Film Sales Support scheme.
German films are particularly well represented this year, with Playa del futuro, by Peter Lichtefeld, in competition for the Jin Jue Award and Marc Rothemund on the Jury. Lichtefeld’s film is a cross-borders ménage à trois produced by Bosko Biati Film, supported by the FFA, BKM, and Filmstiftung NRW and co-produced by EuroArts and Kinowelt, who is also the national distributor and will release it on the 9th of June (International Sales : Futura Film Weltvertrieb). Furthermore, the festival is dedicating a special section to German cinema. Focus Germany, starting on June 12th with a reception hosted by the German Consul followed by a press conference during which Til Schweiger will introduce his lastest film, will screen 16 German films : Barefoot by Til Schweiger, Adil geht by Ester Gronenborn, Close by Marcus Lenz, Edelweiss Pirates by Niko von Glasow, Kampfansage by Johannes Jaeger, The Smile of the Monsterfish by Til Endemann, Soudless by Mennan Yapo, The Ninth Day by Volker Schloendorff, One Day in Europe by Hannes Stoehr, Sophie Scholl - The Last Days [+see also:
