Cinecittà Holding and RaiSat in partnership

by

This morning, Cinecittà Holding and RaiSat signed a partnership agreement for the exchange of services and content, in particular news and journalistic material. Not only does the agreement imply that the journalists of the RaiSat and those of CinecittàNews will collaborate, but it also gives them access to a library of films managed by the Copyright section of Cinecittà (Cinecittà Diritti) on behalf on the Ministry of Culture, a resource often neglected despite its importance.

The first visible product of this partnership is a documentary report on the Italian Film Festival in Tokyo directed by Vittoria Castagnetto. The festival (a selection of 10 films), organised by Aip-Filmitalia, from the 29th of April to the 4th of May, was attended by 12,000 Japanese spectators. The documentary will be broadcast on RaiSat Cinema World, available on Sky.

Carlo Fuscagni, President of Cinecittà Holding, pointed out how strong the interest is in Italian films in foreign countries: “I was in London lately for the opening of the Michelangelo Antonioni retrospective which will run there for the whole month, in collaboration with the British Film Institute — in September, the same selection will be screened in Los Angeles. In the meantime, besides 'Italiana' (a large tour of fifty Italian films, modern and classic, to major cities such as Shanghaï, Buenos Aires, New York, Barcelona, and Paris), there are two upcoming tributes (to Massimo Troisi and Gianni Amelio).”

Choosing RaiSat for a partner was natural, says Alessandro Usai, General Director of Cinecittà Holding, for “Italian cinema has a hard time finding space in the mass media; popular TV channels only broadcast cinema programmes late at night.” On the contrary, RaiSat Cinema World dedicates all of its programmes to world-cinema, with an emphasis on Italy. “We cover all the major events, especially the festivals, explains Carlo Sartori, President of RaiSat, adding, “The Venice Film Festival in September will allow us to try out this partnership, the main purpose of which is to give Italian films more visibility.”
