460 films for Paris Cinéma

A varied creative event with variety for the public". The ambition of director Costa Gavras, president of Paris Cinéma appears to have been completely realised with the programme of the 3rd edition, which runs from 29th June to 12th July. Unveiled yesterday in the presence of the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, the 2005 menu has no less than 460 films, among them 39 sneak previews, a total of more than 1000 screenings including competitions for feature films, shorts and films for children, homages and retrospectives, and also workshops and meetings for professionals.

The Forum des Images offers its traditional competition for original films in the 11th edition of Rencontres Internationales. 20 features will be highlighted, 12 of them European productions or co-productions, notably Adam & Paul by Lenny Abrahamson (Ireland), For the living and the dead by Kari Paljakka (Finland), Le Rivage des murmures by Margarida Cardoso (co-production France-Germany-Portugal), and documentaries from Stefano Rulli (Italy) and Peter Forgacs (Hungary) and French films directed by Jean-Paul Civeyrac and Alain Guiraudie.

Paris Cinéma expects more than 200 guests to attend, headlined by b>Jeanne Moreau, Javier Bardem, Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu to whom retrospectives will be dedicated, Michael Cimino will give a Master Class with Isabelle Huppert, the German director Helma Sanders-Brahms and the Spanish filmmaker Fernando Trueba. Lastly, among the numerous meetings and workshops, two days (the 3rd et 4th of July) will be dedicated to the b>Paris Project, presenting 8 feature projects (4 European) looking for complementary financing in France, an initiative launched in partnership between Ace, EAVE, the Producers Network of the Cannes Film Market and Cinemart of Rotterdam.
