film profile], produced in Munich by Neue Goldkind Film and Broth Film (with BR, SWR, and Arte) and supported by the FFA, BKM, and the Bavarian FFF, is distributed by X Verleih, while Bavaria Film International handles international sales.
What explains the success of the film all over the world (in Berlin, Shanghai, Moscow, etc.) and in Germany is its universal theme. The courage of Sophie Scholl (Julia Jentsch) and her brother (Fabian Hinrichs), both active members of the young Resistance, a secret group called 'the White Rose', and their unflinching moral sense before the nazi inquisitor (Alexander Held), thrilled all generations of spectators.
Sophie Scholl... will compete, on the 8th of July, for the annual German Film Awards, in four categories, including 'Best Film'. Before then, on the 30th of June, Rothemund will receive the Berndhard-Wicki-Friedenspreis, granted to filmmakers and works which promote the values of tolerance and humanism.
