DISTRIBUTION UK

Documentaries on sale online

by

The web now offers a new opportunity for documentaries which have not been distributed in the theatres or on television. Many directors and producers now make their films available for sale online, on either their personal websites or on websites created specially for the purpose. However, this does not solve the visibility issue —which is actually even more tricky on the web— despite the support of many documentary filmmakers' societies.

DocHouse, a non-profit organisation created in the UK in order to support and promote the genre, has launched an online catalogue called DocFinder which is a sort of international showroom, since most titles are registered there.
Data can be very easily added from anywhere in the world by filling in a form and indicating the address at which the documentary can be bought. The information on each film is then published online, sometimes next to well-known titles, such as The Corporation, by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott.
