Benigni brings hope to the film industry
"With La tigre e la neve, I intend to convince the public not only to go to the cinema once, but also to go back, again et again. Cinema Is all about rows of seats and large screens, and both have to be filled.' Roberto Benigni, who attended the Film Professional Days (Rome, 21-23 June) for the premiere of the trailer of his new film (which will be released by 01 on the 14th of October), brought back some hope to a film industry depressed by the severe drop in attendances and profits since the beginning of the year.
So, the 28th Film Professional Days, during which the big majors and distributors presented their line-ups, ends on an optimistic note. "There are good films which, as Benigni rightly pointed out, increase the public's love for the big screen," Walter Vacchino, president of the Anec (Italian exhibitors' society), explained at the end of the meeting. "So spectators should come out en masse for this second quarter."
