FESTIVALS Karlovy Vary

Unveiled, a secret refugee under the spotlight

by

Today, Angelina Maccarone presents Unveiled (Fremde Haut<./i>) for its world premiere in Karlovy Vary. This drama, produced by Ulrike Zimmermann for MMM Film Zimmermann (Germany) and co-produced by Markus Fischer for Fisher Film (Austria), is one of the 24 German films and the 8 Austrian (co-)productions selected at the great Czech festival. It will represent both countries in competition.

Unveiled, shot in Stuttgart, Franckfort and in Baden-Württemberg and supported by Media Plus, the Austrian Film Institute, BKM, and nearly ten regional funds, focuses on an Iranian translator (Jasmin Tabatabai) who is sentenced to death for homosexuality and escapes from her country to live in Germany, a country of which she knows nothing, except the language. The suicide of a fellow-refugee allows her to assume a false identity under a man's disguise, but her new friendship and intimacy with a female colleague threatens her cover.
