Pavee Lackeen Goes To Toronto

by

The feature film debut of acclaimed photographer Perry Ogden, Pavee Lackeen, has been selected to screen as one of the six films in the Discovery Section of the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (8-17 September 2005).

The low-budget feature film financed by the director himself with co-financing from the Irish Film Board (IFB), is an intimate portrait of a resilient and spirited 10-year-old girl and her proud and dignified family. Set in the gypsy's community and filmed with a cast of mostly non-professionals, the docu-drama presents a tough but luminous portrayal of a marginalised group often living in poverty in a modern and prosperous Ireland.

The film will have its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh on July 8th, ahead of its North American premiere in Toronto.
Previous Irish films that screened successfully in Toronto include Omagh and The Magdalene Sisters.
