The “Dark Horse” wins the Brussels European Film Festival

It was a nine-day marathon dedicatted to young European talent which ended Saturday night in the Flagey Centre with the screening of Antony Cordier's first feature Douches Froides [+see also:

and the awards ceremony of the Brussels European Film Festival second edtion.

Among the 14 films in competition, the jury composed of Veerle Baetens (actress), Dominique Deruddere (director), Bouli Lanners (actor and director), Bruno Putzulu (actor) and Assumpta Serna (actress) chose to attribute the Iris for the Best Film (10.000€ offered by Brussels Capital region) to the Danish-Icelandic production Dark Horse [+see also:

by Dagur Kári, who returns after Noi Albinoi with a surrealist sentimental comedy shot in black and white. But Dark Horse is not the only Scandinavian victory of the night. The award for the best performance (2.500€) was given to Annika Hallin, the Norwegian leading actress from Kissed by Winter, while King's Game by Dannish Nikolaj Arcel received the TV RTBF award and the TV Canvas award: 10.000€ each as a distribution guarantee. Be TV awarded Czech Dream, the most controversial film of the festival with 5.000€ (as guarantee of distribution). Finally, the Public Award was attributed to Ordinary Man , the film by Vincent Lannoo.

In a year when the Festival enlarged its European frontiers thanks to the partnership with Royal Belgium Film Archives' Cinédécouvertes – which allowed the Belgian screening of films issued from Russia, Singapore, India, Brazil, Peru, Hong Kong, Argentina, Angola, Siri-Lanka, Mexico, Japan and United-States – attendances increased by about 15%, registering more than 15.000 entrances.
