Pavee Lackeen wins at Galway

Perry Ogden’s first feature documentary Pavee Lackeen was the top winner of the Fleadh Awards Ceremony that closed the 17th annual Galway Film Fleadh last Sunday. The film from the established Irish photographer which looks at the life of a 10 year-old Traveller girl, was presented an award for Best First Feature. A major boost for the film that has also been selected as part of the Discovery Section at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
The closing night film of the Galway film event, Short Order by Anthony Byrne starring John Hurt, was voted second Best Feature Film debut.
Other awards went to John Mallon’s Idir Dha Shaol, voted Best Irish Short Documentary, Aidan O’Donovan, Colm Tobin and Kevin Nolan’s The Brits Ever Done For Us? named Best First Irish Short Animation, Eoghan Kidney’s Stars which took the Best Irish Short Animation Award and Mystelle Brabbée’s Highway Courtesans voted Best Feature Documentary.
Each winner won €1,000 and the runners up to the awards €500. The Stella Artois Pitching Award of €5,000 was given to the Limerick born Keith Brogue who had to submit a one-page story idea for screen and present it in front of an industry panel and audience.
