- Thorfinnur Ómarsson, the MD of the Icelandic Film Fund announces Iceland´s Summer of 2002

The head of Iceland's Film Fund, Thorfinnur Ómarsson, announced a strong summer and autumn line up that he, and indeed the entire Icelandic film industry, hope will go some considerable way to incentivate filmgoing during this traditionally sleepy period.
Both national and international titles were selected and they include Baltasar Kormákur´s long awaited follow-up to 101 Reykjavik - nominated for an EFA and distributed internationally - entitled The Sea.The Sea was produced by France´s Jean-François Fonlupt and stars homegrown star, Hilmir Snær Gudnason and French actress, Hélène De Fougerolles.
Iceland´s most celebrated director and a past winner of a People´s Choice EFA for acting, Fridrik Thór Fridriksson returns with his English language, Falcons starring Keith Carradine, Iceland´s «shooting star» Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir and Ingvar E. Sigurdsson.
Dagur Kári, a bright new talent «discovered» with the multiple award-winning film he made as part of his graduation thesis from the Danish Film School, makes his directorial feature debut with NóiAlbinói, co-produced by Skúli Malmquist and Thór Sigurjónsson for Zik Zak Filmworks, Philippe Bober of the Paris Co-Production Office and Kim Magnusson for Copenhagen´s M&M.
Ágúst Gudmundsson´s The Seagull´s Laughter, which won best picture, director and actress at the 2001 Iceland Film Awards, will have its European premiere in competition at Karlovy Vary this July.
Robert Douglas, whose The Icelandic Dream was Iceland´s surprise hit of 2000, returns with A Man Like Me, produced by Julius Kemp, and starring one of Iceland´s most popular comic actors, Jón Gnarr.
