European film heritage week

by

From 15 to 24 November 2002, Europe will celebrate its film heritage with CinEdays Europe 2002 an initiative of Viviane Reding, Member of the European Commission responsible for education, culture and audiovisual media.

For a whole week, the young and the not so young will have the chance to discover films from Europe´s cinema heritage, to discuss cinema, the audiovisual, photographic and multimedia image, and to create and exchange material on the Internet.

European Film Heritage week organised this year for the first time, will give the people of Europe, and in particular young people, the chance to discover or rediscover masterpieces of European cinema, to become more familiar with their film-making culture or quite simply to improve their knowledge of Europe.
The festivities include the following:
- in many towns in Europe, films from Europe´s heritage will be screened in cinemas, in particular the Europa Cinemas network, and by national and local television;
- festivals and activities related to cinema;
- cinemas and film libraries will organise special screenings for schools and young people, with explanatory talks;
- appearances by film stars in cinemas, on the Internet and on the radio to present film classics and talk about European cinema;
- a game based on European cinema, open to all via the Internet.
