The Europeans in the race
The US-UK-Australian coalition's attack on Iraq has put something of a dampener on the landmark 75th edition of the Oscar® scheduled to take place on Sunday 23 March at the Kodak Theatre in L.A.

Spain's Pedro Almodovar will make film history after being nominated in two important categories for Speak To Her [+see also:

To date, the best performing European film is Roman Polanski's The Pianist [+see also:

film profile], nominated for best film, direction, cinematography, editing, costumes and adapted screenplay.
Italian set designer, Dante Ferretti got his 7th Oscar® nomination for the extraordinary setting he created for Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York while two Londoners, Michael Caine and Daniel Day-Lewis will fight it out for the best actor statuette for, respectively, The Quiet American [+see also:
