(Drabet), Per Fly’s last film in his trilogy depicting three layers of Danish society is opening today in Denmark through Nordisk Film, ahead of its screening in competition at the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival (September 15-24).

Per Fly’s first film in the trilogy The Bench (2000) was dealing with the lower class, and the second one Inheritance, depicting the wealthy elite, won the Best Screenplay Award at San Sebastian in 2003 and collected 6 Danish Academy Awards the same year.
Manslaughter, concentrating on the middle-class, tells the story of 50-year old Carsten (Jesper Christensen), a respected high school teacher married to Nina (Pernilla August) who is having an affair with a former student Pil (Beate Bille), an extreme left wing activist. One night Pil is part of a raid that goes wrong and a policeman is killed. Pil is arrested, and her affair with Carsten revealed…

Co-written by Fly with Kim Leona, Dorte Høgh and Mogens Rukov, the 2,5m€ film is produced by Ib Tardini for Zentropa Entertainment in Denmark, in co-production with Spillefilmkompaniet 41/2 in Norway, Memfis Film in Sweden, Manslaughter/Sigma Films in the UK, in association with TV2 Denmark and Invicta Capital in the UK, with support from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Fund, and the Nordic Film & TV Fund.
