Pickpocket bets on L’Année suivante
Shooting started in Orléans on Monday for L’Année suivante, first feature by Isabelle Czajka with a cast that includes Anaïs Demoustier (Le Temps du loup), Ariane Ascaride, Patrick Catafilo and Bernard Lecoq. Second feature produced by Pickpocket Productions (Serge Duveau) following Ce qu'ils imaginent by Anne Théron in 2003, L’Année suivante received an Advance on Receipts of 450 000 euros from the National Film Centre (CNC). The film also received aid from the Fondation Gan’s cinema fund, as well support from the Centre for the Regions (6000 euros for the screenplay in 2003 and 140 000 euros for the production in 2005) and from Picardie.
Written by the director, the screenplay recounts the turning-point in the life of a 15 old (Anaïs Demoustier). Living with her mother (Ariane Ascaride) in the Paris suburbs, during the summer she finds herself confronted with illness and the death of her father. The school year starts again and she starts second year in secondary school, without knowing that this year her life will be completely disrupted.
Born in 1962, Isabelle Czajka studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière. Assistant operator in television and cinema (Les Amants du Pont-Neuf, Les Caprices d’un fleuve...), she directed a documentary in 1998 (Tout à Inventer) before getting into fiction in 2002 with La Cible, a short film selected in numerous European festivals and honoured in 2003 at Clermont-Ferrand.
Set for six weeks, the shoot for L’Année suivante will start with a week in Ingré and Orléans before heading north for two weeks filming in Picardie (Creil) and in the Paris suburbs, and a visit to the Fête de l’Humanité is also on the schedule. After a break, the team returns from 3rd to 15th October to the Central Region, then sets off for a week to Tunisia, close to Monastir. Theatrical release is set for the end of Spring or Autumn 2006.
