VENICE 2005 Out of competition

The festival discovers the "Invisible Children "

by

Hundreds of children are queuing up in order to attend the screening of All the Invisible Children, a collective film, out of competition, directed by a group of very talented filmmakers: the Franco-Algerian Mehdi Charef, the Bosnian Emir Kusturica, the American Spike Lee, the Brazilian woman Katia Lund, the English Ridley Scott together with his son Jordan, the Italian Stefano Veneruso, the Chinaman from Hong Kong John Woo.

All the Invisible Children is Chiara Tilesi’s idea, the Italian producer, who, together with Veneruso, started to develop the production of these seven episodes each telling a different story on the situation of children, the "invisibles", in different parts of the world. The army child in an African country at war by Charef, the little gypsy boy by Kusturica, the teenager from Brooklyn by Spike Lee, the two meniños from San Paulo by Katia Lund, the photojournalist who is raking up his youth by Scott father and son, the Napolitean child thief by Veneruso, the orphan Little Cat and the rich and desperate Song Song from John Woo’s film. Cruel and shattering portraits in a work supported by the Development Cooperation Office of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations’ Agencies WFP (World Food Programme) and the UNICEF.
"Our aim – says Chiara Tilesi – is to highlight the problem of forgotten children, for the public to wake up to the seriousness of the current situation or simply to show it. Cinema, like music, is a perfect means to make people aware of it". The filmmakers were able to describe these "invisible children’s” living conditions as freely as possible.
