Desiderio's internal life

A genuine hymn to human and cinema transgender, Mater natura, is the sole Italian film to be selected in the "International Critic's Week" section in Venice. Human transgenderism since the film depicts the story of a young transsexual Desiderio, (Maria Pia Calzone), and moves into the trans-napolitan magmatic community. Cinema, in the sense that it also moves between different genders and offers nuances and the diverse principles that lie beneath the spirit of transgenderism.

This appears to be the filmmaker Massimo Andrei's intention, formerly working in theatre and now making his first feature film, with the producer Umberto Massa, who, as well as Kubla Khan, has made several masterpieces such as Lacapagira by Alessandro Piva and Pater Familias by Francesco Patierno. "I didn't give up just because I didn't manage to be get state grants", says Massa. "Just like my other projects, I went ahead and made this film with my own means, since I believed in the value of the project".

Mater natura is a "love and social " story (quoting the filmmaker) which aims to entertain and shock, but which was inspired too much by Almodovar, Stephan Elliot (Priscilla), Sébastien Lifshitz (Wild Side), Gabriel Baur (Venus Boy), Tonino De Bernardi (Rosatigre) and Beeban Kidron () in order to be truly innovative.
