A bloody closing ceremony
The Flanders International Film Festival which runs from the 11th au 22nd of October has already chosen its closing film. This, the 32nd edition, finishes with the much-awaited film by Dominique Derruderre, The Wedding Party [+see also:
The comic book Lune de Guerre by Belgians Huppen Hermann (illustrator, among others, of Jérémiah) Jean Van Hamme (writer of Thorgal, Largo Winch and the series 13) was adapted to the screen by the director Van Hamme. Everything seems to be going well in this story about marriage, it starts with a banquet, then the bride and her mother-in-law end up in jail. The father of the groom organises a veritable siege on the jail to release the hostages and as night falls, the banquet transforms into a bloodbath and battle scene. Dominique Deruddere directs his sixth feature. In 2000, Everybody Famous (Iedereen Beroemd!) allowed the Flemish director to see him nominated for the Oscars in the category of Best Foreign Film.
Co-produced by Belgian outfit MMG (The Alzheimer Case [+see also:
film profile]) with the German company Typhoon and by Fanes Film, Lune de Guerre is sold internationally by German Beta Films. It will be distributed in Germany by Concorde and in Belgium by Kinepolis Film Distribution who will release it on the 26th October.
