Winter without a fire goes to Hollywood ?

Already nominated for the European Film Awards for 2005 (read article), Winter without a fire (CAB Productions) could also enter the race for the Oscars. It is the official offering from the Federal Office for Culture, announced just today, having been recommended by a jury of experts from the College of Cinema (charged with attributing federal aid for feature films), who chose this first fiction feature from the Swiss-Polish Greg Zglinski "for its powerful refreshing breath of cinema, its universal language, the sensibility of its directing, it convincing screenplay and the quality of photography which gives a magnificent impression of our country. Basically, the film owes its inscription to the Oscars to its huge international potential ". If it makes it through the nominations, announced on 31st January next year, the film will wear the Swiss colours at the 78th Oscar ceremony, which takes place on the 5th of March 2006. Winner of the Swiss Cinema Prize 2005 and twice honoured at Venice 2004 (Prix Signis and Cinemavvenir), Winter without a fire follows in the footsteps of War Photographer, documentary by Christian Frei who represented Switzerland at the Oscars in 2002.
