Krauze: „Filming to defend a cause”

by

The film is based on the real story of a woman who tries to kill her children before committing suicide. The film is Krysztof Krauze's new production Plac Zbawiciela (The Redeemer's place), (My Nikifor – Grand Prize in the Karlovy Vary Festival 2005).

The film shows us an ordinary family: a couple in their thirties, with two children, has just bought their first apartment, where they prepare to live a calm and happy life. While waiting, they stay with the husband's mother (Arkadiusz Janiczek). Tension starts building up in the home. The young mother (Jowita Budnik) begins to isolate herself from others, looking for a way to escape, drowning in a deep depression that carries her to the last will to live…
"I always film in order to defend a cause," said Krzysztof Krauze to Cineuropa. "This film is to defend children from the violence which is one of the worst problems in Poland nowadays. And it's neither in the stadiums nor the streets where it takes place, it's at home, among the family"- he added.

As My Nikifor, the script is signed by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze. Wojciech Staroń is the director of photography, Monika Sajko-Gradowska is the stage designer, and Dorota Roqueplo is the costume designer. The film is being produced with a budget of around 850.000 euros by Zebra Film Productions in association by TVP and Canal Plus Poland, with funding for the Funding Agency of the Ministry of Culture. The film is expected to be out in cinemas by the spring of 2006, possibly distributed by Best Film.
