Call for proposal for festivals
The MEDIA programme of the European Comission has published a call for proposal for the support of European audiovisual festivals (call 06/2005), with a budget of 2.2 million euros. To be eligible for it, the festivals must dedicate at least 70% of the programming to works coming from no less than 10 member states. (fiction, documentary, animation, new media). The support given ranges from 10,000 to 35,000 euros and is only applicable to certain expenses not exceeding 50% in: materials, publicity and promotion, copy distribution, subtitling and translation.
The programme must be in cooperation with other European festivals or in a representation context of at least 10 member countries, such as the European Coordination of Film Festivals, or cooperation between 3 different member countries.
The criteria used are based on the European dimension of the festivals. In other words, the geographical origin of the film, the amount of non national European productions and the presence of non national European professionals, will be considered.
Other factors to be considered are: the quality and originality of the programme in general, the effects in regards to films' promotion (especially those coming from countries with small means of cinematic production), if the programme is innovative, and the introduction of young directors.
The deadline for application, for those festivals taking place from September 1st 2006 to May 31st 2007, is December 1st.
