Pocket money for the theatres
The management board of the FFA has unanimously decided to grant 7 million euros to exhibitors, a structural aid intended to compensate for the worrying results registered lately in terms of admissions.
This unexpected money which was taken from the 'common moneybox' (which consists of the money left unspent in 2004) is welcome for all film theatres who had to pay an average of 4000 euros taxes from 2002 to 2004. The exhibitors will probably use this grant to repay loans and tax credits. There is really no downside to this exceptional funding, since it does not interfere with other aid, especially aid dedicated to supporting investment.
According to Peter Dinges, spokesman for the FFA, the 7 million will provide more than financial relief. They are also meant to reward exhibitors for their great contribution to film circulation, and through them, strengthen the whole industry. As Dinges underlined, 'the theatres are not alone in this situation.'
