Based on a short story by Nobel-prize winner Luigi Pirandello, it is a love story set in Sicily in the 1930s between Catarina, a young Sicilian girl and Norwegian sailor Jan stranded on the island. Jan is torn between his desire to settle with Catarina and his longing for his home country. Norwegian landscape and nature will be used in the film to portray the ‘Elsewhere’ and Jan’s inner-thoughts about his native country.

The Norwegian co-producer Jan-Erik Gammleng is the usual production partner to established Norwegian filmmaker Knut Erik Jensen who directed the 2001 successful documentary film Cool & Crazy.
