Casino Royale bound for Barrandov shooting

The new James Bond, British actor Daniel Craig, will start his career in one of the industry’s most sought-after roles from Prague’s Barrandov Studios, according to reports.
Stillking Films's Marketing Director Michaela Olexová was quoted by press agency AFP confirming that the latest installment in the 43-year-long Bond series, Casino Royale, will start filming in Barrandov and the town of Karlovy Vary (exteriors) in January. The Prague based Stillking Films will undertake all local production for the film’s main production company EON Productions.

Many British film industry members have long been against the idea that Casino Royale being shot outside the UK and at some point it seemed that the decision would swing their way. But a Czech shooting was always in the picture as Prague arguably offers value for money with excellent technical support and facilities and locations at a relatively low-cost, a combination that has attracted major productions since 1990.
Most recently Barrandov Studios played host to Roman Polanski’s Oliver Twist [+see also:

last year and Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm in 2003.
Casino Royale will also film in the UK, Italy and the Carribean. Its world premiere is planned for 17 November 2006.
