Sixty Six film for Working Title

by

Paul Weiland who directed Roseanna’s Grave and City Slickers II has just started filming on October 17 in London Sixty Six, a new coming-of-age comedy for Working Title’s specialised arm WT².

The film starring Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake), Helena Bonham Carter, Stephen Rea, Catherine Tate, Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun Of The Dead) and newcomer Gregg Sulkin as ‘Bernie’, is based on an original script by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor. Set in the summer of 1966, as England is about to be consumed by World Cup fever, 12-year-old Bernie is preparing for his Bar Mitzvah and the day he becomes a man. However, Bernie’s family is increasingly distracted by the threat of losing their business and their wayward older son, and the scale of Bernie’s Bar Mitzvah diminishes daily. Worst of all, the Cup Final is scheduled to take place on the same day and when England makes it through the qualifying rounds, Bernie’s longed-for Bar Mitzvah looks set to be a complete disaster.

The film is produced by Elizabeth Karlsen, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for WT² in association with It Now Films. Shooting at Elstree studios and on location in London is scheduled to last for eight weeks, and the film will be released worldwide by Universal Pictures.
