The Viennale (14-26 October) finally ends, after 12 exciting days. A record number of spectators, 86,200 to be precise, went to 305 screenings in the five partner-theatres. Many films were sold out in a few hours, such as Woody Allen's Match Point, Me and You and Everyone We Know by Miranda July, and The Child [+see also:

, by the Dardenne brothers. However, the public was not only drawn to big names, enjoying the festival as an opportunity to discover less commercial works.

The 95 guests of the Viennale proved very active participants, and some of them even staged musical or dancing performances. The many directors who came to present their films discussed them at length with the public, sometimes until late at night, as was the case with Milton Moses Ginsberg's Coming Apart. Besides some big stars like Jane Birkin and Danny Glover, the presence of young Austrian filmmakers, such as Michael Glawogger, Antonin Svoboda, and Sepp Dreissinger, was, as usual, one of the great features of the Festival.

The variety and interactivity of this great Austrian event is what makes it so successful.
