04/07/2002 - Film Four to produce Kevin Macdonald´s documentary drama about two mountaineers trapped in the Andes

Film Four and the New Cinema Found Film Council have joined forces with Channel 4, independent producer Darlow Smithson, and U.S. PBS, on Touching the Void. Based on the best selling novel by Joe Simpson about his and fellow mountaineer, Simon Yates´s dramatic rescue from the Andes in 1985.
Filming is scheduled to begin in Peru on 22 July with Oscar winning Scottish documentary maker (One day in September), Kevin Macdonald at the helm. Macdonald said he was delighted by Channel 4´s interest: «a clear sign of their renewed interest in drama.»
