film profile], the first steps into feature filmmaking of Irish stills photographer Perry Ogden (read the interview) was awarded Best feature film and Best IFB/NIFTC Breakthrough Talent at the 3rd annual Irish Film and Television Awards that took place on November 5th in Dublin. The intimate and naturalistic portrayal of a young Traveller girl and her family living in Third World poverty in a modern, prosperous Ireland had already won the Best feature award in Galway last July and was selected both in Venice and Toronto.

film profile] also won two awards for Best director and Best script co-written by George with Keir Pearson. Liam Neeson and Renee Weldon both won top acting prizes for their respective ‘sex’ roles in Bill Condon’s Kinsey and Fintan Connolly’s The Trouble With Sex, while Sean McGinley was named Best supporting Actor for his part in Gaby Dellal’s On a Clear Day and Charlotte Bradley Best supporting actress in The Boys & Girl From County Clare.

Other award winners include Seamus McGarvey for his DoP work on Sahara, Gregory Magee for his music in Winter’s End, Eleanor Wood & Laura Bowe for their production design in Short Order, and Hazel Webb-Crozoer for the costumes in Mickebo & Me.
David Kelly whose film and TV career spans over six decades, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Tim Burton’s film Charlie And The Chocolate Factory in which Kelly plays Grandpa Joe, was voted Jameson Best International Film Award winner in the People’s Choice categories.
The Audience also chose Damien O’Donnell’s Inside I’m Dancing [+see also:

film profile] as Best Irish Film, and Gillian Anderson Best International Actress in The Mighty Cell.
The award ceremony was attended by hundreds of film stars and TV personalities including Sinéad Cusack, Vanessa Redgrave, Andrea Corr, and Orla Brady.
