Red Road shooting in Glasgow

Andrea Arnold who won an Oscar for her short film in Live Action Wasp earlier this year, has just started shooting her feature film debut Red Road in Glasgow.

The film is co-produced by Red Road Films, a subsidiary of Glasgow-based Sigma Films with Danish powerhouse Zentropa Entertainments. It is among three low budget feature films part of the Advance Party experimental production concept initiated by Sigma’s managing director Gillian Berrie and Danish producer Sisse Graum Jorgensen (Brothers [+see also:

film profile]). All films are scripted by Danish scriptwriter/directors Anders Thomas Jensen and Lone Scherfig, played by the same actors and shot in six weeks in Glasgow with a digital camera. The next films will be directed by Bafta winner Scot Morag Mckinnon and Danish filmmaker Mikkel Norgaard
Red Road has also received support from the UK Film Council (first £10,962 from the Development Fund then an extra £436,144 from the New Cinema Fund) as well as from the Glasgow Film Office and Scottish Screen. The film will be released in the UK by Verve Pictures and international sales are handled by Zentropa’s sales arm Trust Film Sales.
