Chamber of Deputies approves "salvage cinema" law
The Cultural Commission of the Chamber of Deputies has approved the "salvage cinema" law, which restores the possibility, on the part of the public administrations, to sustain film projects considered to be of cultural interest. The funds destined for cinema were "frozen" last July following a Constitutional Court ruling.
The filmmakers and producers of API (Association of Independent Producers) expressed relief that the law was finally approved "as a result of the Cultural Commission’s positive disposition." It is now necessary "for Parliament to declare itself in favour of our industry, reinstating the availability of the Visual Arts Fund – which was hit by heavy cuts by the 2006 Finance Law – as the Cultural Minister has himself also requested."
