film profile] by Saverio Costanzo won the Best Film prize at the Cape Town World Cinema Festival . "This is the first time that a Western film has won at this festival," said Luciano Sovena of Istituto Luce (which produced the film). "This confirms that Private is a universal film and proves that the members of the Academy made a mistake in excluding it from the Oscars."
After a long festival run, Private is now arriving in US cinemas. It is being released today at the Angelika Film Center in New York and on December 2 will also come out in California, in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Irvine. On January 20, it will be released in Miami, Florida. The film, the Locarno 2003 Golden Leopard winner, is being distributed by Typecast. Costanzo has furthermore picked up a 2005 David di Donatello, a Nastro d'Argento and the Silver Spike at the Valladolid Film Festival.
