NRW supports two big productions
This month, the North-Rhine Westphalia Filmstiftung granted 6.5 million euros to 23 projects, two of which were particularly well supported, Henri Quatre – Die Macht der Güte and Within the Whirlwind.
The former, an adaptation of Heinrich Mann's historical novel Henri Quatre, received 2.5 million euros. This project is, in fact, two-fold since it will lead to a feature and a three-part TV fiction. The biographical work co-produced by Germany (Ziegler Film) and France (GTV) will start shooting next year. The director Jo Baier will work with DoP Gernot Roll. The cast includes August Diehl, Moritz Bleibtreu, Ulrich Noethen, Katharina Thalbach, Sybille Canonica, and Tom Schilling.
Within the Whirlwind, another biography which received 1.2 million euros, also involves German (Tatfilm Produktion) and French partners (Lorival). This feature by Marleen Gorris will portray the life of the Russian writer Eugenia Ginzburg, who was sent to the Gulag in 1837. The cast includes Diane Kruger, Ulrich Tukur, and Martina Gedeck.
