by Margarethe von Trotta) has decided to get hold of the camera and direct Liebesleben, a script she adapted from the eponymous novel by the Israeli writer Zeruya Shalev (a best-seller in Germany) and started shooting a few days ago in Jerusalem.

This feature, one of the biggest current projects for the German producer X Filme, depicts the disturbing love story of Jara (Neta Garty), a successful young woman who falls in love with an old friend of her father (Rade Sherbedgia). The erotic fascination she feels allows the older man to impose all kinds of humiliations upon her, a degrading spiral which eventually leads the young academic to investigate the depths of her own soul and the secrets of her past. Despite the specific setting of Liebesleben, the story it tells is universal. After Jerusalem, the crew will move to Tel Aviv, Akkon, and North-Rhine Westphalien, where the film should finish shooting on the 20th of December.
