Carlos Leal heading for Berlin
Swiss-Roman actor Carlos Leal will represent Switzerland at the, Shooting Star 2006 (11 - 13 Feburary), shop window for young European talent organised by European Film Promotion within the framework of the Berlin Festival. He was chosen for his very well received performance in Snow White (Dschoint Ventschr) by Samir, which won him Best Actor Award at the Festival Tamil Nadu in India as well as a nomination for Swiss Cinema Prize 2006, handed out on the 18th January.
Revealed in the cinema in a principal role in this feature, Carlos Leal is known in Switzerland and France as the singer in the hip-hop group Sens Unik – who have songs in the soundtrack of La haine by Mathieu Kassovitz. He appeared on the screen for the first time in 1993 Babylon 2, documentary by the author of Snow White. The experience of video clips shot with Sens Unik led him to acting and he followed a drama course with Jack Garfein in Paris. Starring in various Swiss and French shorts, in 2003 he appeared in two Swiss features – Hildes Reise by Christof Vorster and Love Express by Elena Hazanov – before getting the principal role in Snow White. Having just finished shooting Monde à l’envers by Frenchman Julien Reininger, Carlos Leal joins the very “select” club of Shooting Stars alongside Johanna Bantzer (Strähl), Michael Koch (Attention, prêt, Charlie!), Mona Fueter (Füür oder Flamme), Michael Finger (Utopia Blues), Anne-Shlomit Deonna (Potlatch), Martin Rapold (Exklusiv) and Soraya Gomaa (Vollmond).
