AGIS: "Minister Buttiglione should resign"

by

The General Assembly of AGIS, "having taken notice with indignation of the confirmation of the dramatic cut to the FUS [Visual Arts Fund], reduced to less than 380m euro with the 2006 Finance Law," is asking Cultural Minster Rocco Buttiglione to step down from office.

The national association that serves as an umbrella group for the majority of Italian companies within the film industry is furthermore asking the government to declare "a state of crisis in the sector" and "to intervene with urgent legislative measures" for the execution of normal activity in 2006. AGIS harshly criticizes "the obtuse insensitivity displayed in these circumstances by Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti, confirming the negative ideological view that the government has demonstrated towards culture, as has been witnessed by the re-introduction of constraints and loopholes that in fact substantiate a new form of censorship within the entertainment industry." This reference is to the so-called "porno-tax," to be applied on the sales and rentals of pornographic material, which has stirred up controversy in recent days.
