FUNDING Germany

Nine German films abroad

by

Within the ambit of "Distribution support", a programme launched in May (read news) in order to help foreign distributors promote the launch of the selected films, German Films has just granted 146,500 euros for the release of nine German (co)productions abroad.

The Cave of the Yellow Dog (o.t. Die Höhle des gelben Hundes) by Davaa Byambasuren (known for The Story of the Weeping Camel), which has just won the Grand Prix at the Bratislava IFF, is the first film ever to receive the maximum amount (that is, 50,000 euros) to be distributed in France, as will Anno Saul's Kebab Connection (Wüste Filmproduktion) and Brudermord, a German, French and Luxemburger co-production in which Yilmaz Arslan shows two recently immigrated Kurdish brothers discovering Western life and its drawbacks.
The Ninth Day (o.t. Der neunte Tag), a German and Luxemburger film produced by Provobis Film in which Volker Schlöndorff tackles the way many priests were sent to concentration camp, will be released in the Czech Republic, while young Russian spectators will be able to enjoy Bibi Blocksberg and the Secret of the Blue Owls (o.t. Bibi Blocksberg und das Geheimnis der blauen Eulen), a Bavaria and Kiddinx production directed by Franziska Buch. The Forest for the Trees (o.t. Der Wald vor lauter Bäumen), a film produced by the Munich-based company Komplizen Film in which Maren Ade films the disillusion of a young provincial teacher who has recently settled in the big city, will be shown in the United States.
As for documentaries, Die Grosse Stille, directed and produced by Philip Gröning together with Bavaria and Ventura Films, will be distributed in Swiss, while Rhythm is it!, a Boomtown Media production directed by Thomas Grube and Enrique Sánchez Lansch which shows a group of young dancers from 25 nations interpreting Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring', will be released in Poland. And this time, instead of strolling accross Istanbul, Fatih Akin's Crossing the Bridge [+see also:
